Sphalerite and Calcite Level 3,970, New Fold, Empire State Mine, Balmat, St. Lawrence County, New York. Collected 2022. These sphalerite specimens are more typical of the species being very dark, almost black, in color. This nice combination of contrasting minerals species measures 4 x 3 x 1.8 cm. The piece is somewhat triangular in shape and sits nicely on edge for display. Good views all around. The back shows damage to some of the schalenohedral calcites. Front shows what looks like small areas of yellow sphalerite coloration on some crystals (Even with 15x magnification I can’t tell if this is natural coloration or due to compression marks. There is no chipping present). $75
