Sphalerite     3,872' Level, Mud Pond Ore Body, Empire State Mine, (Previously Zinc Corp. of America Mines), Titan Mining Corporation, Balmat, St. Lawrence County, New York.  This piece is composed entirely of sphalerite and measures 2.2 x 2 x 1.1 cm.  The sphalerite crystals are transparent throughout and a dark amber color with minor red areas.  Very gemmy for the species.  Strong contact along back edge of this thumbnail sized specimen.  $40
