Quartz (variety Amethyst)   Irai, Rio Grande de Sol, Brazil.  Ex. Harold Dibble collection.  This specimen was originally the cover piece on the first edition of Harold’s book titled, Quartz.  The second edition which sold widely, and is better known, shows this specimen in a full-page image on page 82.  This amethyst flower measures 17.5 x 14.2 cm and is approximately 3.5 cm thick.  It is free of damage and only shows a contact, or edge breakage, on the spur that extends from the main circular shaped flower.  It shows fantastic translucence in all areas and a light purple color that is centrally located fading to white/ clear on the edges of the piece.  The display face in concave and the back is fully crystallize (although not nearly as attractive as the front).  $950
