Quartz and Calcite Valentine Mine, Harrisville, Lewis County, New York. Ex. Bill deLorraine collection. This is a fine example which was figured in the book, "Mining in the Empire State". It measures 9.6 x 7 x 5.1 cm and views well from both back and front. It is composed of large pseudocubic crystals of transparent quartz that are highly included with hematite, as selective face phantoms, and needles of tremolite. Nice luster and excellent crystal form for this find. These rare New York quartz specimens were found in the 1990s when a ramp was constructed in the mine and none have been recovered since. They were documented in Rocks & Minerals magazine and several books on New York State minerals. This example is the nicest, in this size, that I have ever encountered. This specimen comes with a custom engraved acrylic base. $650
