Magnetite 2,500 Foot Level, Z.C.A. Mine #4, Balmat, St. Lawrence County, New York. Ex. Chuck Bowman collection and collector. This was the large display piece that Chuck kept for himself when he and his father brought out thousands from the Fowler ore body in 1991 and 1992. This huge specimen has vugs and crystallization on every side so one might be confused, at first, on how to display it. As seen in the images there are two large openings on the front, a large vug on the back, and the base is crystallized with, perhaps, the largest of the crystals. Areas that appear to be rock and not crystallized, usually are.  The crystals in these areas are just much smaller. That includes this one from his living room. It measures 18 x 11 x 11 cm and is in excellent condition with contacts being few and chips very, very minimal.

These Balmat magnetites are likely the finest, most unique example of the species know.  This one is exceptional for the find and is a stunning museum quality example. Very rare to see a large one like this for sale because they ended up in museums. The only reason you see it here is because I purchased all of Chuck's minerals after his passing. I have several of these fine magnetites in my collection but shy away from museum sized pieces like this unless I mine them myself.  $4,500... now $3,600
