Fluorite   Catron County, New Mexico. (These specimens should probably be relabeled to Pine Canyon in Grant Co., per note on the locality for MinDat).  Apparently Catron Co. was a long-time subterfuge to prevent anyone from finding the actual spot and no actual fluorites like this have been found in Catron County. This is one of the few major specimens I have that compares nicely, or better, than those in the Mineralogical Record article. This one is 5.5 x 4.5 x 2.6 cm overall with octahedrons to 1.6 cm on edge. Typical deep purple cores, lighter purple surfaces, green on base, and the classic surface texturing so unusual and noteworthy for this location. Very complete, damage-free crystals. Some edge contacts. Unusually robust and well-formed crystals. Outstanding fluorite!!   $450
