Dolomite      Lead Mine Road, Macomb, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Reference the Mineral News, June 2015 for a full description of this material and the location.  This newly discovered location is a road side occurrence within the town of Macomb, St. Lawrence County, New York and has been documented in an article appearing in Mineral News magazine. The site was initially quite productive but quickly worked heavily and appears to be depleted of its best, if not all, material. The two veins found there produced very high quality dolomite clusters of a cream color. The crystals were large, nicely formed, and high in luster. Also found were interesting dolomite pseudomorphs of dolomite after calcite. Other minerals include calcite, pyrite, chalcopyrite and clear quartz.
This piece is an example of what may turn out to be the nicest dolomite found in St. Lawrence County.  Normally, just an accessory species these dolomites are fine enough to stand on their own as collectable mineral specimens.  This is the finest of the clusters I have to offer and measures 5 x 5.5 x 4 cm.  The crystals are all large, complex, saddle shaped and of a very high luster.  They are up to 1.8 cm each.  The typical high pearly luster seen with these specimens.  Small contact on its base where it once grew on a schalenohedral crystal.  Beautiful rosette form.  No damage.  Good looking piece!    $225
