Calcite on Sphalerite    4,051 Level, Lower Mahler, Empire State Mine, Balmat, St. Lawrence County, New York.  On June 8th, 2023 and enormous pocket was hit at Balmat.  It is the most impressive discovery in the long history of this important New York State zinc mine.  Numerous fine colored calcites were recovered over approximately a month of work by miners.  This piece measures 5.6 x 4.5 x 2.5 cm.  It is a raw specimen dominated by dark sphalerite crystals and a pair of clear schalenohedral calcite crystals.  The piece is in good condition, and for some, could be a piece that worthy of trimming down into two or more nice thumbnail sized piece.  $50
