Calcite    4,051 Level, Lower Mahler, Empire State Mine, Balmat, St. Lawrence County, New York.  On June 8th, 2023 and enormous pocket was hit at Balmat.  It is the most impressive discovery in the long history of this important New York State zinc mine.  Numerous fine colored calcites were recovered over approximately a month of work by miners.  This was a rare example of a crystal that could be trimmed down and be considered a thumbnail sized piece.  It is composed of a transparent, very lightly colored, complex crystal on a translucent partial crystal of calcite.  The selective face inclusions are likely pyrite.  The piece measures 3.3 x 3.1 x 2.4 cm.  No damage.  $150
