Calcite Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Namibia. Ex. Harold L. Dibble collection. This is the nicest Tsumeb calcite in the collection. Nice and large, showy with crystals stacked up high and in parallel growth, mottramite inclusions and coatings in areas, and simple wonderful aesthetics. 13.3 x 10 x 9.1 cm. Rhombs are modified, not cleaved, only one tiny cleave of a couple millimeters found with magnification. It displays as damage-free from any view and all views are nice. High luster! Nice piece of impressive quality.
Great calcites from this famous locality are not all that common. The miners brought out the more exotic species like dioptase and smithsonite instead of the calcites. Further, large examples in good condition weren’t well suited to all the blasting and miner’s lunch boxes. $750
