Titanite     Bear Lake Diggings, Maddill Road, Tory Hill, Ontario, Canada.  Collected by Michael Walter, 1991.  This is the largest crystal that I have personally found in my many years of collecting at this locality.  You hear about large crystals from this place but, frankly, you don't ever see them for sale.  The luster is excellent on this ax blade shaped crystal and its form is classic.  There is some edge fraying that occurred long before its removal from the ground.  There was once an embedded fluorapatite, now weathered away, that can be seen on what I've always considered the back.  Close observation will show lots of translucent areas that glow a pleasing red color.  11.7 x 8 x 3.3 cm.     $400
