Sphalerite     3,872' Level, Mud Pond Ore Body, Empire State Mine, (Previously Zinc Corp. of America Mines), Titan Mining Corporation, Balmat, St. Lawrence County, New York.  This plate of crystals is composed entirely of sphalerite and measures 4 x 3.2 x 1.3 cm.  The sphalerite crystals are transparent throughout and a dark amber color with minor red areas.  The transparency is obvious even without being backlit which this image is not.  Very gemmy for the species.  Backside formed against a calcite crystal so it is completely flat.  Excellent condition with one edge showing some contact.  $600
